More detailsThe Public Universal Friend: radical non-binary preacher, or a canny woman in colonial New England? True believer or opportunistic cult leader? The Second Coming or the Devil incarnate?
Playing with opinion, genre and form, Public Universal Foe explores the history and impact of this fascinating and forgotten figure. Eclectic, funny, and bizarre, this remix of history draws from influences such as 1950’s sitcom, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, and Cowboy Ballads, and Anthony Burgess' "Mozart and the Wolf Gang".

“[Emma Chandler's] Numa and Karl is an incredibly welcome history lesson that deserves global recognition for its dedication to queer joy and resistance.”
“Numa and Karl is not merely a biopic. It is an artwork in itself, using history not only to educate the audience about a man who began the first LGBTQIA+ rights movement, but to remind that sexuality has been a topic of discussion for longer than history acknowledges.”
