La Mama Presents: 29 Scenes Production

Never Always Ever Was

“Hello? Mum? I’m calling from the future…”

Spanning decades and continents, Never Always Ever Was follows Danny, a restless young man from Belfast searching for purpose and adventure, and Julia, a Port Fairy local determined to turn her passion for environmental conservation into meaningful action. Their chance meeting on New Year’s Eve 1989 sets in motion a story that ripples across generations. Two performers embody a vivid tapestry of interconnected characters, accompanied by live music woven through the work’s shifting landscapes. Never Always Ever Was is an intimate and hopeful exploration of what we inherit, what we leave behind, and what it means to call somewhere home.
