From a camera filled room, a prophetess’s final song snakes it’s way to you…
More detailstheatrePUNK co's 'ME EAT ORANGE' is a primal, technologically-driven contemporary dance work by experimental performance-makers Teddy and el waddingham. A pulsing, electric work inspired by the longest sentence communicated through sign language by Koko, an ape kept in captivity, upon whom scientific experiments in language were carried out. 'ME EAT ORANGE' asks: What might collaboration look like in a future where humans, technology and other species must learn to coexist?
ME EAT ORANGE offers an imagined industrial future in which empathetic collaboration and communication precede artistic processes, where communication goes beyond language in a world where the lines between humanity and machines are blurred beyond recognition. Smashing together industrial aesthetics, techno music, video design and contemporary dance, the work gives two artists of different disciplines, who speak different creative languages, the chance to co-create theatre live through scored dance and improvisation where, through trial and error, violence and empathy, they learn to communicate with one another. Sweaty, rigorous and animalistic, ME EAT ORANGE aims to use technology to express new ideas, emotions and stories through forging new collaborative artistic forms.
Catch a first glimpse at this full-throttle new work from identical twin artists Teddy and el waddingham.
