More detailsFreedom is an interdisciplinary performance weaving theatre, live music, spoken word, and movement to explore what it means to seek and reclaim freedom across diasporic Black identities. Journeying through Nigeria, the UK, the US, and Australia, the work traces how liberation is shaped by migration, memory, and belonging. At its centre is a dialogue between self and shadow, body and voice, asking not what freedom means in theory, but what it feels like to carry or search for it within the body. Visceral, poetic, and immersive, this is a work of reflection, resistance, and release.
Lead Creative/Writer/Performer: Mohammed ‘Ayo Busari’
Co-Director/Collaborator: Shelby McKenzie
“In the final act of the show, multi-disciplinary artist Ayo Busari asks, "What does freedom look like?" An apt thesis for this incredible performance that takes you in many directions, without the urgency for a definite answer.”
