Explorations 2026: Here Theatre

Fahrenheit Ammonite

Acclaimed company Here Theatre returns with an ensemble of Tasmanian and Victorian theatre makers in this world-bending play by Kit Lazaroo.
What happens when a pill-popping housewife from a dystopian 50’s novel collides with a talking rabbit who’s been patched into intergalactic radio frequencies? Fed up with her role as the hero’s small-brained spouse in Fahrenheit 451, Mildred Montag accepts a mission to retrieve her nemesis Clarisse, stuck in a distant part of the Universe. Hell-bent on avoiding the male-dominated Western literary canon, Mildred peers into the world of feminist sci-fi and decides that only a time-loop can offer her the liberation she so desperately craves – but where will she find the portal?

It’s strange wondrous, grotesque and literary.
Beat Magazine
At every level, the execution of the play is first rate. Sometimes clever, sometimes truly inspired.
The Morning After
It’s an exemplary demonstration of how theatre can be political and contemporary without being didactic or simplistic. In short, it rocks.
