THREE QUESTIONS: AMY MOULE

OpinionThree Questions

Amy plays the unforgettable WENDY in Head | Thorax | Abdomen. Here she touches on the importance of the physical: diving in, working from the inside out, and messing things up.

1. How do you approach your art?

I tend to work from the inside out, that is I try to pay attention to how an initial read through of the script, character description, premise etc sits within me. My body knows far earlier than my brain what or how to approach the work. I like to go large and then pull back as so much can be discovered by diving in, messing things up then refining.

2. What’s your favourite way to work?

I love to work by doing, by being on my feet. I’m a physical performer and I find blocking a scene helps me retain the script/words. Also emotion lives within the body so there’s a far greater impact in showing not telling. I also truly value and love working within a group or amongst others. There’s a unique and addictive frisson which happens within a rehearsal room. That’s why I keep seeking out opportunities to perform in a variety of mediums.

3. How will your previous work influence Head Thorax Abdomen?

It’s been a little while since I’ve done any scripted work and so I’ll be utilising a lot of my skills in improvisation to keep the character and the work fresh and new each performance. Not that I’ll be going rogue, more that I’ll be using skills in staying present and connected to produce authentic responses.
