Writing Intensive 2024

La Mama Pathways Writing Intensive is a professionally tailored skills development initiative for emerging and mid-career playwrights and theatre-makers based in Melbourne. Designed with our experiential knowledge of making contemporary theatre, and with generous assistance from John T Reid Charitable Trusts, the 2024 program represents an evolution of, and is informed by, our thrillingly successful 2023 Pilot program.

Emerge 2024

For theatre makers aged 18 – 26 running throughout our 2024 Winter Season as part of La Mama Theatre’s Pathways Program.

Free to attend, Emerge provides young artists with dedicated time and space to make and develop their own work. No previous training is required – all you need is a commitment and openness to meeting new people, learning new skills, and engaging in a creative process.

Emerge ran over 10 weeks with weekly workshops on Saturdays from 20 July to 14 September, culminating in a one week performance season from 16 – 22 September 2024 at the La Mama Courthouse.

Emerge 2024 was facilitated by guest artists and long-term collaborators Liv Satchell & Xanthe Beesley. Across the ten weeks, Liv and Xanthe will share their individual and shared practices in devising, generative writing, movement, and dramaturgy. They’ll lead participants in theatre making experiments that weave together body and text to create an original performance work.
